About Dataran Merdeka

Dataran Merdeka, or Merdeka Square, is a historic site in Kuala Lumpur that holds great significance in Malaysia’s history. It was here that the Union Jack was lowered, and the Malaysian flag was raised for the first time on August 31, 1957, marking the country’s independence from British rule. Today, Dataran Merdeka is a vibrant public space surrounded by iconic buildings and monuments.
